Nikolai Choubine

Born into a family of musicians, pianist Nikolai Choubine brings to Pitt a lifelong love for piano. He earned a Doctor of Music in Piano Performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where he studied with Evelyne Brancart and Arnaldo Cohen. Other teachers include Daniel Pollack, Vladimir Feltsman, Eteri Andjaparidze, and Paul Ostrovsky.

Nikolai Choubine enjoys a dynamic performance career as a solo and collaborative artist, which has taken him across the United States, Canada, and Europe. He is a prize-winner at several international piano competitions and a recipient of numerous awards including a Russian and East European Institute Mellon Endowment Fellowship and has been named a Sorabji performer by the Sorabji Archive in England.

Dr. Choubine is a deeply committed teacher of music. He has enjoyed teaching as a Lecturer in Piano at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN; Instructor of applied piano and chamber music at the Gracias Conservatory at Mahanaim College; and as an Associate Instructor at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. As a master clinician, Dr. Choubine has given masterclasses at the UNESCO Associated School for Children, Gracias Conservatory in Huntington, NY, the University of Lethbridge, the University of Saskatchewan, and the University of Regina in Canada among others.
