Wyatt True Returns to Pitt

Wyatt True graduated from Pitt in 2006 with two degrees and four Majors: a BA in Music and Philoshphy and a BS in Astronomy and Physics. During his time at Pitt, True served as concert master for the University of Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, performing solos with the orchestra on multiple occasions, and studying violin with Roger Zahab. With so many options open to him, True could have gone in many directions after his undergraduate work, but his passion for music took him first to Colorado State University, then to the University of Oregon where he is a doctoral student in violin performance and historical performance practice.

True is currently a Graduate Teaching Fellow with the Eugene Symphony Orchestra and an active performer on both modern and baroque violin. He has presented recitals throughout the United States and in Europe and his busy concert schedule includes performances with the Boulder Philharmonic, Fort Collins Symphony, Cheyenne Symphony, l’Orchestre Symphonique d’Orléans, Shippensburg Festival Orchestra, Oregon Mozart Players, and the Oregon Coast Music Festival. Now, he returns to Pitt to as a soloist with Pitt's Orchestra in Zahab's composition vioentelechron. True has no problem putting into words the value of his time at Pitt both musically and intellectually, noting that,

“…the university opened my mind on many levels. You cannot be a music student at Pitt without being exposed to contemporary works. The faculty at the music department teach by example, showing how great it can be to collaborate with living composers and bring new music to people. But even outside of music, Pitt allowed me to explore additional fields, travel abroad, and open myself to the differences and opportunities that co-exist. This freedom to explore and be progressive is difficult to find in other universities, but thankfully I was able to experience this at Pitt.”

You can hear Wyatt True and the University of Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday, March 6 at 8 p.m. in Bellefield Hall Auditorium. The concert is free to the public and also includes Britten's Simple Symphony (conducted by Aaron Brooks) and Stravinsky's Octet for Winds.
