Music on the Edge: Cikada Ensemble from Norway

Date

October 23, 2010 - 8:00pm

Widely regarded as one of Europe's premiere contemporary music groups, Cikada will perform Eivind Buene's Possible Cities/Essential Landscapes, Lars Petter Hagen's Funeral March in memory of Edvard Grieg, and Carola Bauckholt's Treibstoff ("Fuel"). Vist this link for a review of Eivind Buene's composing style as well as a video sneak peek at Cikada performing Buene's work. Scandinavian guitarist Magnus Andersson will be joining Cikada to premiere American composer David Felder's new work Requiescat. Critics have described Andersson's skill as an "Incomparable mastery of his instrument." (Journal de Gèneve)

Founded in Oslo in 1989, Cikada Ensemble focuses on works by significant Norwegian and Scandinavian composers, as well as leading international composers. The group has toured extensively throughout Europe, USA, Canada, Mexico and Australia. With contemporary music at the core of its ventures, Cikada enjoys a constantly expanding repertoire through actively commissioning and premiering new works. At the centre of Cikada's ideology lies a long-term objective to work with composers to develop new pieces, portrait concerts and interdisciplinary projects, thus taking an active role shaping the future of western art music.
