Press Release Music on the Edge will present composer Betsy Jolas, an internationally acclaimed and award winning composer, as this year's Franz Lehar Composer-in-Residence. Her compositions will be presented by a team of outstanding pianists, including Amy Briggs, Winston Choi, Lisa Kaplan, and Pitt faculty composer Amy Williams. The program will feature Jolas' music for duo pianos and an arrangement of Edgard Varèse's Amériques for two pianos, eight-hands made by Varèse himself. The lone non-piano moment of the evening will be provided by Roger Zahab performing Jolas' Episode sixième for solo viola. The program will be rounded out with Messiaen's Amen des étoiles, de la planète à l’anneau and Elliot Carter's Diversion #2. The concert takes place on Sunday, November 2 at Bellefield Hall Auditorium (315 S. Music the Edge Presents the Acclaimed Peabody Trio and John Shirley-Quirk

On October 27, Pitt’s Music on the Edge will host the Naumburg award-winning Peabody Trio with renowned singer John Shirley-Quirk in a concert that features music by Zhou Long, Maurizio Kagel, Harold Meltzer, and Thierry De Mey. The trio will feature Shirley-Quirk as narrator in Meltzer’s Sindbad and will lean toward the theatrical for De Mey’s Musique de tables. The Peabody will give their innovative program on Saturday, October 27 at 8 p.m. in Pitt’s Bellefield Hall Auditorium. Pitt’s acclaimed contemporary music series, Music on the Edge, will present three piano recitals on September 20, 29, and October 5. Billed as the Powerhouse Pianists Festival, each concert will feature two leading proponents of contemporary piano music in programs covering the full spectrum of the modern repertoire.
