43rd Annual Jazz Seminar Concert

The University of Pittsburgh Annual Jazz Seminar and Concert culminates on Saturday, November 2nd with a gala concert in Carnegie Music Hall. Internationally renowned pianist and composer Geri Allen, Pitt’s new director of the Jazz Studies Program and associate professor of music, continues the legacy of Professor Emeritus of Music Nathan Davis, the former director and founder of the Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert, who retired this summer.

November 3, 2012: 42nd Annual Jazz Seminar Concert

Another line-up of international jazz greats is in place for the 42nd Annual Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert, which runs Oct. 30-Nov. 3.

Founded in 1971 by Pitt Jazz Studies program director Nathan Davis, the event features a stellar group of jazz musicians who will hold free on-campus lecture/demonstrations, visit area schools and community venues, and then perform on stage as an ensemble in the annual concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 3 at Carnegie Music Hall, 4400 Forbes Ave., Oakland.

41st Annual Jazz Seminar Concert

The 41st Annual Jazz Seminar Concert features Geri Allen, piano; Randy Brecker, trumpet; Maurice Brown, trumpet; Billy Cobham, drums; Larry Coryell, guitar; Quamon Fowler, tenor saxophone; Curtis Fuller, trombone; Donald Harrison, Jr., alto saxophone; and Abe Laboriel, bass. They will perform under the direction of Nathan Davis, saxophone, founder of the Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert and director of Pitt’s Jazz Studies Program.
