Professor Deane Root, Director of the Center for American Music, has been awarded a $39,826 National Leadership Grant by the Institute of Museum and Library Services to plan a new online directory to be called Resources of American Music History. The project is a collaboration between the Center and the Society for American Music, which has its headquarters at the University of Pittsburgh.

The project will bring together experts in archival and library resources that document the history of musical activity in the United States, along with specialists in electronic description and access, the management of bibliographical databases, and user search strategies. The resulting online digital resource will be based at the University of Pittsburgh, and will be available to students, scholars, librarians, and musicians all over the world.
