Ensemble Auditions, 2016–17

Auditions will be held for Department of Music student ensembles beginning Monday, August 29. Our choirs and instrumental ensembles are open to students throughout the University and you are encourgaged to apply regardless of your major. Below, please find specific audition requirements for each of our groups.

Gospel Choir

The Gospel Choir will have an open rehearsal on Thursday, September 1 in 123 Music Building from 6–7:40 p.m. No prepared music needed. Come and explore singing gospel music!

The 2016 Heinz Chapel Choir Holiday Concert is titled "Open My Heart" and includes choral favorites (Morten Lauridsen's "O magnum mysterium", Franz Biebl's "Ave Maria" and Randall Thompson's "Alleluia"), new settings of holiday standards "O Tannenbaum" and "In the bleak midwinter", and a few surprises!

Pitt Choral Showcase

Join Heinz Chapel Choir, Men's Glee Club, and Women's Choral Ensemble as they combine their talents in a celebration of choral singing at Pitt. The Men's Glee Club and Pantherhythms, under the direction of Richard Teaster, will sing a variety of music ranging from 16th century English madrigals to favorites by Billy Joel. Lorraine Milovac will lead the Women's Choral Ensemble through historic and contemporary pieces from the treble voice repertoire. And the Heinz Chapel Choir with conductor Susan Rice will offer a spectrum of tonal color in several contemporary musical styles.

WQED to Broadcast 2015 Heinz Chapel Choir Holiday Concert

WQED FM 89.3 will present its annual broadcast and live Web stream of the Heinz Chapel Choir Holiday Concert on Friday, December 11 at 8 p.m. as part of Pittsburgh Foundation Performance in Pittsburgh. Those streaming the concert over the Web should click on the player at the top of the WQED FM homepage (linked above). WQED will be rebroadcast on Christmas Day at 2 p.m. Download a copy of the 2015 program, "Gloria!" (pdf).

Heinz Chapel Chamber Choir Festival

Heinz Chapel Choir will host three high school chamber choirs from the region in its annual Chamber Choir Festival: the Pine-Richland Chamber Singers from Pine-Richland High School (Lee Rickard, director), Top 21 from Bethel Park High School (Todd Kuczawa, director), and the Dallastown Vocal Ensemble from Dallastown Area High School (Jennifer McCleary, director). Each guest choir will perform several a cappella works ranging in style from Renaissance motets, to English madrigals, to jazz, including a signature work in a style of their choice.
