Heinz Chapel Choir Spring Concert

Heinz Chapel, free hccsp08.JPG Pitt's renowned Heinz Chapel Choir is approaching two significant milestones in the space of only a few weeks. From April 17–19, the ensemble celebrates its 70th Anniversary with several alumni events culminating in a spring concert of a cappella music. Then, on April 28, the group embarks on a fifteen day tour of China, the choir's eighth international tour and first visit to Asia. The Heinz Chapel Choir has over 1,000 alumni scattered around the world. Many of these will converge on Pitt's campus on April 17th to celebrate the choir's 70th anniversary with events that include a sing along in Heinz Chapel and banquet. The choir performs it's concert on Sunday, April 19th at 3 p.m. at Heinz Chapel. The concert is free to the public and will include a wide variety of music ranging from The Beatles to folk music from around the world, and feature Chen Yi's Fengyang Song.

hccinround.JPG Heinz Memorial Chapel, free Update: Press Release Heinz Chapel Choir Presents Fall Concert On Sunday October 12 the Heinz Chapel Choir will offer a concert of a cappella music from America, Italy, Russia, Ireland, China and many other countries. Composers Paul Tschesnokoff, Gioachino Rossini, and Paul McCartney will be represented in a concert in which the variety of the program ranges from sacred music to the Beatles. In preparation for their upcoming tour of China the Choir will sing Fenyang Song, a folk song evoking traditional Chinese percussion arranged by award-winning contemporary composer Chen Yi. The concert takes place on Sunday, October 12 at 3 p.m. in Heinz Chapel and is free to the public.

Heinz Chapel Choir Chamber Choir Festival

hcc12-07b.JPG Heinz Chapel, free Each year John Goldsmith and the Heinz Chapel Choir share the spotlight with outstanding high school choirs from around Pennsylvania by hosting their annual Chamber Choir Festival. Now in its 18th year, the event provides guest ensembles with an exciting performance experience and educational opportunity. This year the festival will feature a cappella choirs from Fox Chapel High School, State College High School, and Pine-Richland High School. The festival takes place at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at Heinz Chapel (Fifth and Bellefield Avenues), and is free to the public.

Here are some snap shots from two of our October concerts: Heinz Chapel Choir and the Symphony Orchestra. As a regular part of Heinz Chapel Choir concerts, director John Goldsmith divides the choir into two or three groups and they perform in the round. This photo shows half the choir in the north-facing transept window. The setting is an important part of the event acoustically as well as visually.

Heinz Chapel Choir Presents Fall Concert/Holiday Concert Order forms available online

For its fall concert, the Heinz Chapel Choir will offer a program of a cappella music from America, England, Latvia, Russia, Basque, Ireland, Venezuela, Hungary, and Scotland. Led by former Chanticleer member John Goldsmith, the choir will present a broad range of music including works by 16th-century English composer John Dowland, Russian master Serge Rachmaninoff, and music by Paul Simon, with a wide variety of traditional music.
