Concert Series
Pitt concert series showcase music that ranges from Ellingtonian swing to the edgiest contemporary pieces, performed on instruments as familiar as the saxophone and as rare as the sackbut (a Renaissance trombone).
IonSound Project, the University’s first music ensemble in residence, plays contemporary chamber music. Music on the Edge likewise explores contemporary works, and features visiting artists as well as the Music on the Edge Chamber Orchestra.
Pitt’s Jazz Seminar and Concert is devoted to the teaching, performing, and documenting of one of America’s most original art forms. Though not currently active, from 1991–2007, the Bach and the Baroque ensemble presented period-instrument performances of the music of Bach and his contemporaries.
