Performance Bach And The Baroque

The Bach and the Baroque ensemble was founded in 1991 to present period instrument performances of the music of Bach and his contemporaries. The ensemble, assisted by the Cantata Choir, presents one concert each semester in Heinz Chapel. Its collection of instruments include oboes d'amore and da caccia, cornetti and sackbuts, as well as baroque trumpets and tympani.

In addition to presenting cantatas and other vocal works by J.S. Bach, Schelle, Buxtehude, Homilius, and Knüpfer, the ensemble presented in 2002 the first modern performance of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's 1789 Matthew Passion, and in 2004, the first American performance of G.P. Telemann's 1750 Matthew Passion.
