The music department will host a special screening of the acclaimed documentary Heavy Metal in Baghdad followed by a Q&A and meet-and-greet with the subjects of the documentary, the band Accrassicauda. Rolling Stone writes,
"The group, which formed in 2001 and was influenced by Metallica, Slayer and Slipknot, almost immediately began receiving death threats from fundamentalists who called their music Satanic — playing in public became almost impossible, and even practicing was dangerous."
They fled to Syria at the height of Iraq's sectarian violence, then got refugee status in the United States. And they are an incredible heavy-metal band to boot. We'll get a chance to talk to them about playing metal in Iraq and the U.S., opening for Metallica, and pursuing their dreams.
