Heinz Chapel Choir will host three high school chamber choirs from the region in its annual Chamber Choir Festival: the Fox Chapel Madrigal Singers from Fox Chapel Area High School (Ben Murray, director), Peters Township Symphonic Choir from Peters Township High School (Ryan Perrotte, director), and the Seneca Valley Madrigal Singers from Seneca Valley Senior High School (Aaron Magill, director). Each guest choir will perform several a capella works ranging in style from Renaissance motets, to English madrigals, to jazz, including a signature work in a style of their choice. While not a competition, the student ensemble will receive critiques from guest adjudicators Professor Marvin Huls (Seton Hill University) and Dr. Susan Medley (Washington and Jefferson College). The HCC will join in the spirit of the festival as well, singing Renaissance repertoire by Arcadelt, Lasso and Byrd, as well as 20th century settings by Hawley, Barnett, Billington, and Paulus.
This festival will also mark the revival of a campus tradition, namely music in the Cathedral of Learning Commons Room. Heinz Chapel Choir will perform both its spring concerts in the Commons Room while Heinz Chapel is under rennovation during the spring term.
