Jeff Weston, a doctoral candidate in composition and theory, has received a commission from the Ernst Krenek Institut Privatstiftung. Weston will compose a 10–15 minute chamber work to be premiered by Klangforum Wien in 2018. His commission will include a three week residency at the Ernst Krenek Institute in Krems, Austria in fall of 2017. This is the fourth commission by the Ernst Krenek Institut Privatstiftung as part of the program “ernst” and is awarded in cooperation with impuls International Ensemble and Composers Academy for Contemporary Music and Klangforum, Wien.
Jeff Weston was born in 1986 in Iowa and has studied composition at Luther College (BA) and Bowling Green State University (MM). He is currently a PhD candidate in Music Composition and Theory at the University of Pittsburgh where he has earned a PhD certificate in Cultural Studies with an emphasis in Sound Studies. Utilizing a non-extravagance of sound, his music is focused upon task and the reoccurring.
