Roger Zahab and the University of Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will launch a series of concerts featuring important violin concertos of the early 20th century, including Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 (1916–17), Sibelius’ Violin Concerto (1903–04), And Carl Nielsen’s Violin Concerto (1911). Outstanding student musicians Ian Chow and Joe Liu will perform the Prokofiev and Sibelius concerti on February 6 and 20 respectively, while Pittsburgh Symphony member Laura Motchalov will perform the Nielsen on March 26.
