Rosenblum's Music Part of New Collaborative Work

“Reverberations” is a new Studio Arts Faculty Exhibition that will feature a collaborative work from Studio Arts faculty Michael Morrill and Aaron Henderson with Department of Music faculty member Mathew Rosenblum. Titled Portal, the work features Morrill’s paintings, lighting design by Henderson, and a soundscape composed by Rosenblum. Portal will be a semi-permanent installation in the Rotunda of the Frick Fine Arts Building’s University Art Gallery.

The Pitt Chronicle previewed “Reverberations” and Portal in a recent edition, describing the interaction of the video and audio elements,

"'Portal' was created and designed for the building’s rotunda, and it traces the sun’s movement using theatrical lighting elements, paintings, and music. Discs of light that mimic the natural light from eight round windows circling the top of the rotunda, glide slowly across the walls and floor. Sometimes the light lands on one of four large gold-and-dark-blue square panel paintings arranged symmetrically opposite one other. This implies abstract representations of the summer and winter solstice and the spring and autumn equinox. The lights move to a soundtrack of music and sounds representing the outdoors.'"

The “Reverberations” exhibition and Portal installation will run from September 10–October 23 at the University Art Gallery. The Opening Reception will take place from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, September 10.
