Pitt’s Men’s Glee Club Invited to the 2008 Intercollegiate Men’s Choruses National Seminar

We are pleased to announce that The University of Pittsburgh Men’s Glee Club has been invited to participate in the 43rd Intercollegiate Men’s Chorus National Seminar in Vienna, Virginia. The seminar will take place March 27th-29th and is hosted by the Washington Men's Camerata and the U.S. Army Chorus. The seminar will feature choruses from universities all over the country, including University of Michigan, Rutgers, and University of Miami, to name only a few. The Club will perform at Vienna Presbyterian Church in a concert on Friday afternoon, March 28th. The program will consist of works by Liszt, Hummel, Morley, and Dowland as well as traditional spirituals and folk songs. A highlight of their concert will be a premier of a newly commissioned work by David N. Childs, composer and Assistant Professor of Choral Studies at Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music. The Men's Glee Club, founded in 1890, is the oldest non-athletic extracurricular activity on campus. The club has enjoyed successful tours throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. They have been musical guests at two World's Fairs, and continue to be featured in various television and radio appearances, including a spot on the CBS soap opera As the World Turns. The club has been recorded for radio broadcast locally by WWWS-FM and WQED-FM, and their recent all-Liszt concert was featured as part of WQED’s Performance in Pittsburgh series.
