We were hoping to have this in time for the Music on the Edge Concert devoted to Ezra Sims and his music, but are still pleased to announce the special proclamation in honor of Ezra from Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor Catherine Baker Knoll. The complete text reads as follows:
"As Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, it gives me great pleasure to recognize you, Ezra Sims, on the occasion of your 80th birthday.
Certain events in life call for celebration; therefore, it is my sincere hope that you can take special joy in the warmth of those around you today and every day. On your 80th birthday celebration, may you and your loved ones celebrate the accomplishments and successes you have enjoyed throughout your life. Ezra, you are a remarkable man with a career spanning nearly half a century. As a composer of microtonal music, Ezra you have received numerous awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Koussevitsky Commission, The American Academy of Arts and Letters Award and many others as well as your formative role in Boston's thriving contemporary music scene. May your future hold many more moments of laughter and love with those around you, and may you remember the good times you have shared.
Your family and community know how very special you are, Ezra. may you continue to be a guiding force and beacon of light and happiness to all those who know and love you. As such, I share the words of author Vince Lombardi, who said:
"the quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor."
On behalf of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, I am delighted to have the opportunity to add my personal birthday greetings and extend my best wishes for continued health and happiness. Happy Birthday!"
