Mary S. Lewis, Professor Emerita, passed away October 28, 2017; a memorial service was held November 11 in Nashua, NH. She earned her PhD while raising 4 children, and taught at Brandeis University, MIT, and Brown University before becoming the first woman to join the tenured faculty in Music at the University of Pittsburgh. We continue to build upon the changes she encouraged in our department. In her distinguished career she served as long-time secretary of the American Musicological Society council, wrote foundational studies on Renaissance music and publishing, and mentored many a graduate student and faculty colleague. We are deeply grateful for her contributions to our lives and to this university.
