Vocalist Chloe Wieczorek will present a recital of jazz standards including songs by Jerome Kern ("The Way You Look Tonight"), Betty Carter ("Bluebird of Happiness"), George Gershwin ("Summertime"), and many more. Joining Wieczorek are pianist Ben Clifton, drummer Nick Volk, bassist Charlie Scott, and saxophonist Nicholas Amoscato.

Come out to the first ever Spring Student Jazz Festival at Pitt to hear Westminster College and Pitt Jazz Bands play classics of the big band repertoire, new arrangements and more.

Students in the Jazz Arranging class will give a public performance of their arrangements on Monday, December 2. The performance will feature a jazz combo comprising Nick Amoscato (tenor sax), John Bagnato (guitar), Chris Capizzi (piano), and Yoko Suzuki (alto sax and course instructor).

The Department of Music’s History of Jazz course has been selected “Best Class” by readers of The Pitt News in the campus paper’s annual “Best of…” issue.

Internationally acclaimed jazz pianist and composer Geri Allen (MA 1982, ethnomusicology) has stepped in as Director of Pitt’s Jazz Seminar and Concert, now in its 43rd year. Allen is continuing the legacy of Professor of Music Emeritus Nathan Davis, the founder and former director of the Pitt Jazz Seminar and Concert, who retired this summer.

Nicholas Amoscato, a Dietrich School senior double-majoring in music and computer science, has been chosen as the 2013 University of Pittsburgh/BNY Mellon Jazz Scholar. Amoscato, a native of Wexford, Pennsylvania, was selected to receive the $5,000 scholarship by a panel of jazz musicians and educators based on his advanced performance abilities.
