Pitt alum Hee-sun Kim (Pitt PhD, 2004)returns to campus with the K’ Arts Korean Arts Ensemble for a program of music and dance that combines traditional art forms with contemporary expressions. Kim is a virtuoso performer on the kayagum, an Asian zither with a history that reaches back over one and a half millennia. An expert in preserving the traditions of Korean music, she is also a leader in commissioning and performing new works for this ancient instrument. Her recently published book Contemporary Kayagum Music in Korea is the first about kayagum in English.
