Gamelan Ensemble

The University Gamelan, directed by Visiting Lecturer in Ethnomusicology Andrew Hicken, presents music and dance from Java with special guest artists R. Anderson Sutton, Roger Vetter, and Val Vetter. Saturday night's performance will also feature the Dangdut Cowboys, Pittsburgh's own Indonesian pop band.

The University Gamelan, under the direction of Professor Andrew Weintraub, will perform music and dance of West Java. The program will feature dancer Ening Rumbini and master drummer Undang Sumarna.

This past March the University Gamelan, directed by Andrew Weintraub, performed a concert with the Erie Philharmonic as part of Edinboro University’s Friends of Music Concert Series. Under the direction of Daniel Meyer, the Erie Philharmonic performed William P. Alexander’s Winter Solstice: Images From a Journey, and Debussy’s La Mer. The festival included a wide arrary of musical performances, martial arts, and traditional arts and crafts.
