Previews for NOW EnsembleYou can find two extensive previews in the Post-Gazette and City Paper for tomorrow night’s concert with NOW Ensemble. Buying tickets in advance through ProArtsIf you are planning to attend our December concerts by the African Music and Dance Ensemble, Men’s Glee Club, or Women’s Choral Ensemble you can now purchase tickets online at www.proartstickets.org or by phone at 412-394-3353. Tickets purchased in advance through ProArts are $10 for general admission, and $5 for students and seniors. Tickets at the door are $12 for general admission and $8 for students and seniors. Pitt students are admitted free with ID. Like all ticketing services, ProArts charges a small convenience fee, but we’ve set our prices to insure that you will still save over the door price when you purchase your tickets through ProArts. We hope that you’ll take advantage of ProArts Tickets and that you’ll continue to enjoy all of our programs from Music at Pitt. Price III (PhD ‘00) promoted to Associate Professor at Northeastern UniversityCongratulations to Emmett G. Price III, (MA ‘99, PhD ‘2000), promoted to Associate Professor with tenure at Northeastern University (Boston, MA). He was also recently appointed the Chair of the Department of African American Studies. Emmett is the former editor-in-chief of the Journal of Popular Music Studies, the academic journal of the International Association of the Study of Popular Music - US Branch. ScholapaloozaAlong with all our diverse and exciting concert series, Music at Pitt offers the opportunity to interact with artists and scholars through lectures and discussion. Our next three events provide insight into the creative process of two contemporary composers, Ricky Ian Gordon and John Adams, as well as that of J.S. Bach. On Friday at 4 p.m. the music department hosts Ricky Ian Gordon and David Korie, composer and librettist for The Grapes of Wrath a new opera currently in production by the Pittsburgh Opera. You can meet the artists on Friday and then hear the opera on Saturday Night by purchasing a ticket through Pitt Arts (by Thursday at 4 p.m.) or directly from the Pittsburgh Opera. On Saturday at 3:30 p.m. we host Pittsburgh Symphony Composer of the Year John Adams. Adams will talk about his recent composition, including his newest opera Dr. Atomic based on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Next Friday (Nov. 21) Bach scholar Markus Rathey will discuss how the structure of Lutheran litany is reflected in J.S. Bach’s Gleichwie der Regen und Schnee, BWV 18. All of these events are free to the public and take place in Room 132 of the Music Building. We hope to see you there. |
